Adorable Hairless Kittens from TrophySphynx

About Us

All our Sphynx are part of our close-knit, loving family. As such, this is 100% cage free environment. Our goal is to ensure the healthiest environment for our cats (and a dog), provide them with plenty of exercise, quality food, and plenty of affection. Our cats have exquisite pedigree lineage from Europe, with many Champions in their lines. All of our kittens and cats are TICA and CFA registered.

By now, you have probably read a lot of information about Sphynx, their history, habits, challenges, demeanor, so we won’t give you another dose of Wikipedia. You are still checking your options and trying to make a decision. So here are some pros and cons for you to consider:

PROS

  • They are purr-fect! Ok, we are biased… but now that we got this out of the way, let’s get serious!
  • Lack of hair: this is a tremendous relief when it comes to our homes. You don’t have the hairy sleep spots, no hair on clothes
  • Reduced risk of allergies: for those that have hair and/or dust allergies, sphynx offer a significantly lower risk of allergic reactions
  • Socialization: Sphynx are very social animals, they will want to spend time with you awake and asleep
  • Playfulness and affection: Sphynx are extremely playful, love to be loved just as much as they enjoy showing their affection
  • Highly intelligent: Sphynx are extremely intelligent, making them extraordinarily trainable
  • Healthy: Sphynx are a healthy breed with lifespan of 14-16 years

CONS

  • Social cats: this fits as both advantage and disadvantage, but definitely an important one to consider when getting a Sphynx. Sphynx are very social. These cats grow to love, care, and need you, so if you travel a lot, don’t spend time at home, or expect the cat to be alone – Sphynx may not be the perfect option for you. These cats need company whether people or other pets they can interact with.
  • Bathing: I feel like there is a certain myth that sphynx love to bathe. In general, I would say it is more of “hate less” attitude. There are always those that love it, but don’t expect them to dive into bath every time they see one. In any case, they will need bathing. Since they have no hair, the natural oils of their skin collect dirt. If not bathed regularly (we recommend once every 30-45 days), collected oil and dirt will create brownish spots that are not only unappealing, but they may also cause skin irritations. In turn, this would cause dirty marks wherever they sleep.
  • Special diet: Sphynx tummy is sensitive and combined with their hairlessness, require a diet to make sure they have proper nutrition to keep their metabolism well-functioning. Sphynx do have a tendency to become overweight, so finding a balance between weight and proper nutrition is important.
  •

We do think Sphynx are hands down the best cat breed. But don’t take our word for it – you will see for yourself!
